The new UK master’s rules: What has actually changed?

May 25, 2026 · 1 min read · QCS Editorial

The UKVI recently implemented significant changes to student visa regulations. Most importantly, international postgraduate taught students (Master’s) can no longer bring dependents (spouses and children) unless they are enrolled in postgraduate research programs (like PhDs). However, the 2-year Graduate Work Route remains fully active, allowing graduates to live and work in the UK without sponsorship after finishing their degrees. Alternatives like the Skilled Worker or Health & Care paths are still viable. Contact QCS to plot your family’s best route.
